23 Jul What Makes Body One Better When it Comes to PT
At Body One Physical Therapy, we believe in collaboration. Not just with your doctor’s office after you come see us, but also with each other. Your unique needs require unique care. We know that you might have had a different experience with physical therapy in the past, but we do things differently and -we think- typically better than other approaches. Here’s how Body One does PT:
- Your first PT visit: You will be greeted by our friendly front office, and they’ll get all your information including insurance, initial intake paperwork, and any doctor’s referral. You’ve probably had this experience at other medical offices before! You will meet with a Physical Therapist for the Initial Evaluation (IE). The PT will go over your concerns, ask detailed questions, and perform a physical evaluation. This appointment is longer (1 hour) than your follow-up appointments (40 minutes), since the provider has to evaluate your concerns and create your custom treatment plan.
- PT vs PTA: You may be treated by a combination treatment team. Almost all the Physical Therapists at Body One are Doctors; of Physical Therapy or other related disciplines. PTAs (Physical Therapist Assistants) are also specially-trained providers. They work under the guidance of a PT, but can do every part of your treatment except for the initial evaluation. (Due to current industry regulations, PTAs also cannot perform dry needling treatment.) When you see the PT, he/she will likely introduce the PTA who may co-treat you.
- Private Treatment Rooms: While we have gyms and specialized equipment for Physical Therapy, we also utilize private treatment rooms. You will see your provider in a clean, comfortable, private room instead of in a gym with many other patients. This allows you to have a more focused, productive, and comfortable visit with your provider.
- Family Owned and Operated Practice: Body One is not owned and managed by some off-site corporation. We have been independently owned and operated for over 20 years and are deeply invested and involved in our local community. Every year we volunteer our time, skills, and donations for a wide variety of local events including athletic and charity events. We are a welcoming, inclusive practice and treat patients of all ages, backgrounds, and activity levels. Our goal is to help you reach yours!
- Home Exercise Program: Your PT will create a custom treatment plan which includes a home exercise program or HEP. Your HEP will be unique to your situation, ability, limitations, and goals. Body One utilizes a program that allows you to work through your HEP online and even start/stop a timer so you never lose track of where you are in the exercises. We can also print off paper copies of your HEP at the front desk.
- Outcome: Every two weeks that you’re in our care, we’ll ask you to fill out a questionnaire called a patient treatment outcome. You will score it related to your pain and your function. This allows the providers to see your progress.
- Doctor’s Referral: In most cases, a doctor’s referral is not required to schedule with us. Typically, you’ll have 64 days before you’ll need to get a referral from your doctor’s office. If we determine that you need ongoing PT past that point, we will work with your doctor’s office to get a referral. If you have specific questions about needing a doctor’s referral, please contact your insurance carrier.
- Treatment: Physical Therapy providers use a variety of treatment types to help achieve the best outcome in your unique situation. You will likely receive a combination of manual (hands on) therapy and targeted exercises that you may do in the clinic as well as at home. Providers also often make use of treatment methods like dry needling, IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization) such as Graston Technique®, soft tissue manipulation (similar to massage), and more. Your provider will use the best treatment method for improving your symptoms and helping you recover.
- Wellness Programs: Depending on your condition and lifestyle, your provider may recommend that you schedule a Wellness visit for one of our Body One wellness programs. Body One offers additional cash-based programs to complement your physical therapy, as well as to benefit your total health. These wellness programs are available to everyone and include: Running Performance, Golf Performance, Recovery Plus, dry needling, Pilates and more. Click to view all our wellness offerings.
