Tanea Spanton, PTA

Education

Associates in Physical Therapy Assisting, University of Indianapolis 2015

Tanea Spanton started out as a 2013 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College where she received an AAS in Medical Assisting and worked at a Family Medicine practice while pursuing her PTA degree. In 2015, she graduated from the University of Indianapolis with her AAS in Physical Therapy Assisting.

She proceeded to work at Indiana University Hospital, downtown Indianapolis, where she assisted rehabilitation with pre and post-operative transplant, orthopedic, urology, and oncology patients for two years. In 2017, Tanea and her husband decided to move to Florida where she worked at a private outpatient clinic that specialized in hand and upper extremity rehab. This is where Tanea found her love for specialized therapy within a private practice. After 16 months of living in Florida, they decided to return “home” back to the Indianapolis area late 2018.

Tanea is active with the University of Indianapolis Physical Therapy Assisting program and is an APTA credentialed clinical instructor assisting future PTAs with real-life practical situations. She completed Body One Orthopaedic Residency program in 2020 and am currently working on becoming an orthopedic specialist PTA through APTA.

Tanea enjoys helping patients recover from any limiting condition. She loves being a Physical Therapy Assistant because it allows her to gain the knowledge from each individual therapist she assists and makes her a well-rounded clinician for any patient and condition. When asked what is her preferred specialty to treat, her answer was “people.” She enjoys working with older adults, sport injuries and everything in between. Tanea is scheduled to attend the nine-month post-professional residency program at Body One/University of Indianapolis for the advanced training of physical therapists. She is also a Graston-certified provider.

When Tanea isn’t teaching PTA students or helping patients at Body One, she and her husband have plenty to keep them busy while keeping up with their young daughter! They also love NFL and hockey games, going to concerts and festivals, traveling to tropical locations for get-away vacations, and spending time with Rex, their boxer.
