Manual therapy is a large part of our practice at Body One Physical Therapy. We take pride in providing one-on-one treatment to each patient based on his/her individual needs. While active movement and exercise are what most people think of when they hear “physical therapy”, hands-on manual therapy is often essential to maximizing motion and achieving appropriate movement patterns. It is a technique that our expert therapists utilize every day as a part of a comprehensive treatment plan!
Manual therapy techniques are skilled hand movements and skilled passive movements of joints and soft tissue intended to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, induce relaxation, mobilize or manipulate soft tissue and joints. It can be utilized to decrease pain as well as reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or restriction. Techniques may include manual traction, massage, mobilization/manipulation, and passive range of motion.
After your evaluation, your orthopedic physical therapist will describe what is needed, how it will help, and why it is necessary to achieve your therapy goals- all while ensuring you are comfortable every step of the way! Questions are always welcomed!
